Title: DCDB - Postcodes
Custodian: DTEI - Land Services Group - Land Boundaries Branch
Jurisdiction: South Australia
Postcodes is a digital dataset depicting the postcode boundaries within the state. This dataset is one of many themes that comprise the Digital Cadastral Data Base (DCDB). Postcode numbers are issued and maintained by Australia Post. Postcode boundaries are derived from DCDB Suburb and Rural Locality boundaries. Australia Post accepts the Suburb and Rural Locality boundaries as the defining polygons for all postcodes within South Australia. Postcodes are captured only where defined Suburbs or Rural Localities currently exist. To be used with suburb and cadastral data layers to determine the area covered by postcodes and their locations.

- Geographic extent polygon:
- 129 -38, 141 -38, 141 -26, 129 -26, 129 -38
Note: The format for each Geographic extent name is: Name - Identifier - Category - Jurisdiction (as appropriate)
Geographic bounding box:
The bounding box encloses the maximum extents of the dataset. There may be voids or gaps within the bounding box, depending on the defined coverage of the dataset. Outer bounding rectangle as Latitude/Longitude coordinates based on the WGS84 datum (expressed as both Degrees Minutes Seconds and as decimal Degrees):
- North bounding latitude: -26° 00' 00.000'' S (-26)
- South bounding latitude: -38° 00' 00.000'' S (-38)
- East bounding longitude: 141° 00' 00.000'' E (141)
- West bounding longitude: 129° 00' 00.000'' E (129)

Lineage:
The source data for the Postcodes theme was obtained from Australia Post and the DCDB. Postcode boundaries were captured using both the Cadastre and Suburb themes of the DCDB for reference. There are 339 Postcodes within the State; each identified by a unique number.
Positional accuracy:
The positional accuracy of the Postcodes theme is dependent upon the accuracy of the manual digitising process used for both the Cadastre and Suburbs themes of the DCDB. Relationships exist with other DCDB themes, principally the Cadastre, Suburbs and Road Centre-lines, and external data sources such as the Topographic Information System (TOPIS), used for topographic features such as watercourses etc. Any re-positioning, amending or upgrading of this data may affect the Postcodes theme.
Attribute accuracy:
The attribute associated with each Postcode is the numerical identifier. It is estimated that the accuracy of this information is 100%.
Logical consistency:
The dataset is stored digitally. Tests for logical consistency are carried out automatically using geographic information system software. ARC/SDE is used to maintain the Postcodes theme. When postcode polygons are created or amended, any topological errors (eg. duplicate lines, overshoots or undershoots) detected by ARC/SDE are corrected. The Postcodes theme is topologically constructed as a polygon dataset.
Completeness:
Spatial and attribute data is 100% complete for all defined Suburbs or Rural Localities and complies with government classification standards. The boundaries are modified, if necessary, with reference to the Cadastre and Suburbs themes.
